The prevailing debate about online gambling is popularly known as a lobbyist issue. The discussion constitutes whether to legalized, control or banned gambling online altogether. The fact is that, average Americans don’t bother themselves with this issue due to the reason that it does not influence their lives at all. But the politicians are aware of the small groups in the populations who cares deeply on this subject, whether they support or against it.

This is a very difficult situation for our lawmakers because they are force to choose between their careers and personal values. Either, there are particular groups who will pressure them to lobby their side especially if they are the one funding the lawmaker’s political campaign.

If you are a first term Congressman for example from a very Republican district but you only triumph against your adversary in a very slim preliminaries. I’m sure you need to put aside you inclination to vote to support gambling because there are small factions who has a big impact on the general population that you need to support. These groups including the Focus on the Family and Christian Coalition Group will surely withdraw their support for you if you don’t support the UIGEA legislation. These factions can certainly influence the voting traits of the ordinary citizens even though the general population doesn’t care about the said matter. You either support what they want or you are not going to see another term in your respective office.

Either way, if you are on a neutral territories, you will still receive pressures from both sides of the legislation that will surely affect your voting decision.

In conclusion, politicians will certainly pick their votes according to politics and not on their personal values. The clear winner will be the side with the biggest political influence. Since the public doesn’t really care about the issue, then the politician must choose the group which can support his political ambitions and will support his career funding.
